Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2 – 19, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty.
Who We Are
A Brief History
The late Marion Stubbs Thomas founded Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, on January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nine years later, a group of mothers in the Hampton Roads area organized an interest group for the Norfolk Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. The Norfolk Chapter was chartered in 1948 which makes 2018 our 70th anniversary! We are one of the oldest chapters in the nation and the second oldest in the Mid-Atlantic region. Norfolk Chapter currently has 26 active mothers and 49 wonderful children.
Nationally, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. boasts more than 230 chapters, representing more than 40,000 family members. Each chapter plans annual programming activities guided under a national theme. Through service projects, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. creates a medium of contact for children to stimulate their growth and development. Specifically, we seek to serve our children and the community at-large through educational, civic, cultural, health, recreational and social opportunities.
